Raleigh Part-Time and Contract Placement On the Rise

12/11/2013 |

According to Fox Business, there has been a rise in part-time hiring. There is surrounded speculation that this increase has occurred due to “the economic recession, cheaper labor, concerns about the Affordable Care Act and offering health benefits to full-timers.” These aspects may factor in to the increase of part-time hires within companies; however, part-time hires are aiding companies so much that the trend may stick.

In order to recruit qualified Raleigh part-time employees to fill in the gaps of the company, many companies are seeking out help from freelancers and temporary workers. According to recruiting experts, it is the temporary workers that are the reason for increased job positions; the need for “filling in the gaps,” as stated before, is more dominant than full-time positions.

Not only are part-time and temporary workers filling in the missing holes for companies, they are also an easier way to determine if the fit is right for an eventual full-time position. Time and resources are wasted for hiring an employee for full-time work right away and then finding out that they do not mesh well with the company values. Hiring part-time workers and monitoring their growth and compatibility with a company helps corporations out in the long run.

Seasonal hiring of temporary and part-time workers has also increased. As of October of this year, 159,500 new hires were made, the second highest since 1999 with 172,200 hires. The reason for these additional hires is to prepare different companies for the holiday seasons, when extra help is not only wanted but needed. Not only does it help part-time employees obtain extra money for the holiday season, but it also provides relief from unemployment and uncertainty. Seasonal employment makes a huge difference to both the company and the workers.

What does this mean for the future of part-time employment? Given the information provided, it seems as though the economy is paving the way for more part-timers to be accepted before full-time employees. While we are still unsure what the future holds for part-time workers, it seems as though they are now deemed necessary for companies to function properly.
